I have been smoking Ashton cigars for as long as I can remember, they were always a well-constructed cigar that has great flavor and you hardly ever get a poor one (I don’t ever remember getting a bad cigar from Ashton). Plus, as time went on in the cigar world, they would make a new line of cigars to meet the current trend, regular, aged, full-bodied, etc. Ashton was one of the first on the list to make a full-bodied line of cigars, the VSG, which stand for Virgin Sun Grown. The wrapper of the cigar is a full-bodied powerhouse, that Carlos Fuente Jr. said one time that it has the strength of a mule’s kick. And if you have smoked one of these cigars, you can believe it.
Yesterday a good friend of mine, Joe D., gave me an Ashton VSG Corona Gorda (5 3/4 x 46) for my birthday. What a great guy, and what a great gift! I couldn’t wait to smoke it today, It has a beautiful dark and oily wrapper, a bit toothy, but still great. Upon lighting it up, I tasted a very flavorful, creamy smoke full of sweet cedar and spice. I also picked up a hint of citrus. The cigar picks up and you get good flavors of coffee and a nice earthiness to it. The cigar has a nice finish. The cigar looks a lot stronger than it is, it is a smooth, creamy smoke with full flavor, but not too overpowering. I would recommend this cigar as an after dinner smoke. It is not for the occasional cigar smoker, but for the smoker who lights up every day and enjoys his cigars. Smoke one today and let me know what you think.
